Dave Mate

Dave was born and raised in Vancouver. He discovered a love for the blues in his early teens.  Inspired by famous greats such as B.B. King, Howlin’ Wolf and Buddy Guy, Dave bought his first guitar at the age of 26 and taught himself to play.       In 2004 Dave formed the now Madison Blues Band. The blues are reflected in Dave’s unique style of play. His love and appreciation of the music are clearly seen in his enthusiastic performance on stage


Roger Malhame

Roger  has been playing the blues harmonica and singing vocals with various bands in Canada since 1965. He plays the blues harp with a touch of jazz influence for his own unique sound. Roger was the special guest at the Madison Blues Band’s WISE Hall concert in 2005,  Showing his passion for the love of the Blues, Roger became a permanent member of the Madison Blues Band. 


Mike Spindloe

Mike originally from Toronto, migrated west to Edmonton at the age of 18. There he completed a Bachelor of Music in Saxophone performance at the University of Alberta.  Later moving to Saskatoon, Mike established himself in the local scene becoming a long time member of the Saskatoon Saxophone Quartet, and the leader of the avant-jazz-rock group The Unity Ensemble. In 2003 Mike moved to Vancouver playing in several bands. In 2010, Mike joined the MBB performing on their third CD titled "Watch Me".


Jim Shuttleworth

Jim has been playing bass since he was 14 years old, and at the age of 18 began playing in bands. Throughout the 70’s and 80’s Jim played in a variety of rock, top 40, gospel, bluegrass and Latin-jazz bands touring throughout Alberta and British Columbia. After moving to Vancouver in 1989 he took a hiatus from live playing getting married and raising a family.

Jim returned to music scene in 2005 joining a classic rock band, and in 2011 he joined the Madison Blues Band returning to his love of the Blues and Blues-based –rock. Jim’s philosophy has always been to work in sync with the drummer to lay down a solid foundation for the band. Known as the man hiding in the back in his own world, yes this is true, but without question his presence is heard.


Wes Hallem

Wes has been providing the drive for MBB since 2014. Influenced by the likes of Stuart Copeland, Gavin Harrison and Terry Bozzio, Wes brings his  unique style and passion to each performance. Wes can also be heard with Soulbender on RatPak Records and currently with Mad Symphony


Emily Lechevallier

Emily was born and raised in Richmond BC and from an early age driven by a strong love for music and the performing arts. She completed the Royal Conservatory of Music in piano at 13, and has since entertained audiences in many different capacities – stage, television and film. Inspired by such artists as Eva Cassidy, Bonnie Raitt, Koko Taylor and Etta James, and joined the MBB in 2015. Emily is happiest when expressing herself through her vocals and ‘singing the Blues'.


Brian Bird

Brian has been playing piano since he had to reach up over his head to the keyboard while standing by the piano.  He was involved in the Vancouver Jazz scene in the seventies writing arranging and playing.  He made his living playing and singing in the then thriving local pub scene until he got a family and a mortgage and a job as a software engineer.  Music has remained a mainstay in his life while working, studying jazz and classical piano, playing with Keith Bennett's Mothers of Convention, and more recently with the Madison Blues Band, joining the band in 2015
